SATURDAY, 1ST MARCH
TERRESTRIAL PICK

The Bourne Supremacy
High-octane follow-up to and improvement on The Bourne Identity, this time with Paul Greengrass in the director's chair. IMDb: 7.5 (ITV1, 9pm)

FREEVIEW PICK

Fargo
The best Coen brothers film yet, no mater what they say about No Country For Old Men. It has Steve Buscemi! IMDb 8.2 (Virgin 1, 10pm)

SKY PICKS

Mission: Impossible III
After the relative crappiness of II, Alias and Cloverfield creator JJ Abrams gives the franchise a kick up the arse, Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays the bad guy and is clearly having lots of fun doing so. IMDb: 6.9 (Sky Action/Thriller, 8.50am and 6.50pm)

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Forget Khan, this is the best of the Star Trek films. The crew take a Klingon ship back to earth in 1986 to retrieve whales and save the planet. Yay! Worth watching for the 'nuclear wessels' alone. IMDb: 7.3 (Sky Sci-Fi/Horror, 5.10pm)

True Romance
Christian Slater marries hooker Patricia Arquette, steals some cocaine and trys to sell it in Hollywood. Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Michael Madsen, Val Kilmer, Brad Pitt, Tom Sizemore, Samuel L. Jackson and James Gandolfini co-star. Beat that for a cast. IMDb: 7.8 (Sky Action/Thriller, 3.05am)

SUNDAY, 2ND MARCH
TERRESTRIAL PICK

Chicago
A rare example of a musical that doesn't suck. Catherine Zeta-Jones is hot as Velma, Renee Zellweger is perky as Roxie and Richard Gere is noticeably less wooden than usual. IMDb 7.3 (BBC One, 10.20pm)

FREEVIEW PICK

Jurassic Park
Now 15 years old, some of the dino effects aren't aging very well, but the t-rex and raptors are still better than most such creations today. The kids are still irritating though. IMDb: 7.7 (ITV2, 10pm)

SKY PICKS

The Fugitive
Harrison Ford is the innocent man on the run from US marshall Tommy Lee Jones. IMDb: 7.8 (Sky Modern Greats, 8pm)

Goodfellas
Arguably Martin Scorsese's finest work, a gangster movie superseded only by the Godfather trilogy. Ray Liotta plays mobster Henry Hill. IMDb: 8.8 (Sky Screen 1, 10pm)

To Live And Die In L.A.

If you're a fan of Michael Mann's Heat or Collateral, you'll love this. My guess they both inspired by this film. Secret Service agent William Petersen tries to track down a counterfeiter, Willem Dafoe, who killed his partner. IMDb: 7.0 (Sky Action/Thriller, 3.30am)

MONDAY, 3RD MARCH
TERRESTRIAL PICK

Snatch
Guy Ritchie's follow-up to Lock, Stock And Two Soming Barrels is just as good, provided of course you like that kind of thing, which I do. Brad Pitt's on top form. IMDb: 8.1 (Five, 10pm)

FREEVIEW PICK

Dead Man's Shoes
A scary-as-hell Paddy Considine plays a soldier who returns home to take revenge on the thugs who torment his younger brother. Neat twist at the end. IMDb: 8.1 (Film4, 11.25pm)

SKY PICKS

The Departed
Not Scorsese's best film, but this cops and gangsters tale with leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and a scenery-chewing Jack Nicholson did bag him an Oscar and best picture last year. It's good stuff. IMDb: 8.6 (Sky Action/Thriller, 1045pm)

Good Night, And Good Luck
At the height of anti-communist paranoia, CBS journalist Ed Murrow challenges Senator Joseph McCarthy. Probably helps to know a little bit of the history beforehand, but this is a classy and absorbing film written and directed by George Clooney. IMDb: 7.8 (Sky Indie, 5.20pm and 10.35pm)

2010
This sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey is a much more accessible affair and, to be honest, the better movie. Watch it as a tribute to Roy Scheider, who passed away recently. Would make a great double-bill with Danny Boyle's Sunshine. IMDb: 6.5 (TCM, 6.50pm)

TUESDAY, 4TH MARCH
TERRESTRIAL PICK

The Fighting Seabees
Only two films on terrestrial today, this one gets the pick because of it's better IMDb rating. Something about military construction workers in WW2 starring John Wayne. IMDb: 6.2 (Channel 4, 1.10pm)

FREEVIEW PICK

Twister
Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt chasing tornadoes. Lots of whizzy CGI and mindless entertainment from Jan de Bont, director of Speed. IMDb: 5.9 (ITV2, 11.05pm)

SKY PICKS

The Conversation
Gene Hackman stars as a surveillance expert who falls victim to paranoia when he becomes too involved in a case. Possibly Hackman's best film and one that should be watched with a quality sound system. IMDb: 8.1 (Sky Modern Greats, 6pm)

Poseidon
Critically-slated remake which, if you can just put the original aside, is actually one hell of an action movie. Great fun. If there's one thing director Wolfgang Petersen knows how to do, it's work with water - he did Das Boot and The Perfect Storm. IMDb: 5.6 (Sky Screen 2, 11pm)

Transamerica
Felicity Huffman (she of the Desperate Housewives) plays a pre-op transsexual who discovers she's fathered a teenage son. A great central performance. IMDb: 7.6 (Sky Indie, 12pm and 10.30pm)

FRIDAY, 7TH MARCH

NATIONWIDE RELEASES

Diary Of The Dead
Another George A. Romero zombie horror. Not too shabby apparently, especially if you like this kind of thing. Lets hope it's better than Land Of The Dead. IMDb: 7.2

The Game Plan
American football player discovers he has an 8-year old daughter. Stars The Rock and Kyra Sedgwick, clearly grabbing a paycheck inbetween seasons of The Closer. IMDb: 6.2

The Other Boleyn Girl
Boleyn sisters Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson compete for the affection of King Henry VIII (Eric Bana). Might all be a bit redundant if you watch The Tudors which, in the shape of Natalie Dormer, has an Anne even hotter than Natalie Portman. IMDb: 7.1

Vantage Point
Thriller exploring the attempted assasination of the US president from five different perspectives. Dennis Quaid and Forest Whitaker headline. Sounds like something to catch on Sky. IMDb: 6.8

LIMITED RELEASES

Black & White
No information available.

Four Minutes
German drama in which an elderly piano teacher trains a young woman in prison. Won all kinds of non-US, non-UK awards. IMDb: 7.4

Tragi-comedy about a petrol station attendant in rural Ireland who befriends a teenager. Co-stars Anne-Marie Duff. IMDb: 7.1

Son Of Man
I quote from IMDb: "One man's journey of love, deception and betrayal in contemporary South Africa. Based on the New Testament." Doesn't that sound exciting? IMDb: 7.0

We Are Together
Documentary about an orphanage in South Africa. Won a bunch of awards. IMDb: 9.0

FRIDAY, 14TH MARCH
NATIONWIDE RELEASES

The Cottage
No, it's not a film about gay men cruising for sex in public toilets, but a comic horror directed by the guy who did the excellent London To Brighton. Stars, intriguingly, Andy Serkis, Reece Shearsmith and Jennifer Ellison. IMDb: n/a

Dr Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!
Animation about an elephant trying to protect a microscopic city from destruction. No idea if it's any good. Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Will Arnett and Jaime Pressly are among the voices though. IMDb: n/a

Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert Tour
Just what I've always wanted, a 3D Hannah Montana concert tour film. Bound to do well in the UK where nobody knows who she is. IMDb: 3.3

10,000 B.C.
Independence Day director Roland Emmerich brings us this prehistoric epic about a mammoth hunter. Largely unknown cast and little advance word save for a couple of poor reviews on IMDb, doesn't bode well. IMDb: n/a

LIMITED RELEASES

Children Of Glory
True story of the 1956 Olympic water-polo match between Hungary and the USSR, which turned out to be something of a bloody affair, apparently. IMDb: 7.7

Flight Of The Red Balloon
Puppeteer Juliette Binoche takes on a Taiwanese babysitter to look after her son and the two begin to share an imaginary world. Or something. IMDb: 7.2

Mister Lonely
A Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Samantha Morton) meets a Michael Jackson impersonator (Diego Luna) and invites him to her family home, a commune, in Scotland. The weird cast also includes David Blaine, James Fox, Werner Herzog and Anita Pallenberg. Directed by Harmony Korine, sadly, it seems it's not as interesting as I would like it to be. IMDb: 5.4

Redacted
Brian De Palma directed Iraq war movie focusing on the media. Unknown cast, not particualrly good reviews. IMDb: 5.9

Water Lilies
Coming of age drama set in a Parisian suburb. Earned the two young female leads Cesar nominations, so might be worth a look. IMDb: 7.4
